Shireen in New York

Director | Story Editor | Creative Producer | Adaptive Screenwriter

I tell stories about New York and Beirut. Born and raised in Lebanon, I relocated to New York on the anniversary of the Beirut Blast. Amid the personal and political challenges that followed, I was awarded a presidential scholarship from The New School. That moment of realization hit me during the COVID-19 pandemic & Lebanon's revolution: to move cities and tell stories. Currently, I’m on the editorial staff of The New Yorker | Condé Nast.

Though initially drawn to theatre, I found excitement on sets, overseeing projects from inception to realization. I’ve been featured on Variety. I’ve worked on projects with ITV. studios on ‘The Voice.’ I’ve directed acclaimed actors like Nicole Ansari-Cox and Nada Abou Farhat in my short films In The Night and Nothing Has Changed. In The Night was selected for the Beirut International Women Film Festival. And I’ve co-produced a kaleidoscopic feature ‘Everything.’

Through these narratives, I explored themes that truly resonate with my cross-cultural experiences; such as city living & identity, relationships, trauma, the passage of time, & what it really means to be a human.

I was deeply involved in The New School’s community, acting as a student ambassador for the MA in Media & Doc Studies Programs and contributing to research and teaching assistantships. I hold an MA in Media Studies from The New School in New York City and a BA in Film, Theatre & TV Studies from the Lebanese American University.
